The 7th Annual Tamarindo Marathon will take place this coming weekend (Sept 21-22), attracting 5,000 world class athletes from and Costa Rica and several other countries. This series of challenges has become a popular part of the annual calendar of the Guanacaste province, and most hotels and rental resorts report being fully booked.
The main event will feature the a race of 42 kilometers, with other challenges of 30 km, 21 km, 10 km and 5 km. This is the premier marathon on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
The participants for this 2013 edition of the Tamarindo Marathon will include four Ethiopians, two Americans and one Cuban. Among the most prominent are the American Carlos Trujillo who has a personal best of 1:03:19 in the 21 km, and African competitor, Fikadu Lemma, with 2:09:50.
The first four tests (42.5, 30, 21, 10 km), and will start and finish in front of the Hotel Tamarindo Diria. Most events will start at 5 a. m., while the 10 km and 5 km start will be 5:30 a. m.
